There is no easy answer. The size of the branch, the type of wood, the integrity of the branch, the resting place and moisture content of the environment, as well as temperature. All of these will affect it. Fungi mostly will grow on it and degrade it but they will work at different speeds based on all of those factors.
Generally a few years for a small branch, quite a lot of years for a larger branch or trunk - hence why stumps are sitting in yards for years and years!
