In the Army, everyone has to qualify with the hand grenade to be in the service. Infantrymen and special forces troops have to qualify once every six months; everyone else qualifies in basic training then never sees a grenade again as long as he lives. So there's this big argument: do you wear the grenade badge or not? I never did, but some people wore it every time they put on their greens. And really, no one ever seemed to care one way or the other.
Hand Grenade Standard.Live grenadethrow is not required for qualification. Mock Bay training is required for the live hand grenade throw IAW FM 3-23.30.
- CS/CSS: Soldiers will qualify on the Hand Grenade Qualification Course (HGQC) IAW FM 3-23.30 and throw a live grenade within the past 12 months.
