Your period can be overdue by anything from a few days to 4-5 weeks. If you are worried about your period being very late, ask your doctor why this is happening and what you can do about it. Make sure you couldn't possibly be pregnant as that would be a reason for an overdue period.

It depends the woman, but most women know how exact their period takes place.

If your period has always been quite exact and is delayed for say 1/2 days, there are some possibilities.

1. You are pregnant. Buy a pregnancy test at the drugstore or online and follow the instructions on the leaflet. It is important to be sure about this.

2. Your body recently underwent a changes in hormones, maybe your daily rhythm changed or your diet. Then it's not serious, it will come in a few days or weeks again.

3. You are anorexic. Anorexia stops the menstruation and makes you infertile.

4. You were sloppy with taking your contraceptive pills. Not serious it will come again.

yes, you just need to be on the contraceptive pill and skip the 'sugar' pills in the 28 day cycle which contain no hormones, and you can skip it for several months. Apparently, you shouldn't do this for more than a couple of months at a time, because it is not healthy.
