Respiratory Therapy can be taken as a two year program of study Associates of Science (AS) degree. However, it is two years once the student enters the professional phase of the program. There are a number of prerequisites that must be completed first (depends on the curriculum layout of the college). These would include, English, math, psychology, human anatomy and physiology I and II, microbiology, chemistry, etc. It is strongly recommended that you finish all the critical sciences first. Still, to give you a better an more detailed look at the program, click on the related links section (U.S. Department of Labor) indicated below. It will get you information about the entire field of study. Best Wishes!!

Any accredited respiratory therapy school should give you some form of documentation verrifying that you have passed the courses. If you are thinking about enrolling in a school or program that doesn't offer a certificate, it's probably not accredited and wouldn't be the best place to study.
