If your meaning is the battle ship moored in Wilmington, North Carolina, its correct name is the USS North Carolina. The first American battleship to be designed in 20 years, she was launched in New York City in 1941. 728 ft long, 108 ft wide, she weighed in at 44,377 short tons and could cruise at 26 knots. This great ship had an illustrious career in the Pacific, protecting aircraft carriers and aiding in landing of the US Marines on many islands, and finally in Japan itself.. She gained 15 Battle Stars by war's end and was then sailed to New York where she was retired in 1947.

In 1961 she was bought from the U.S. Navy for $330,000 raised by the efforts of North Carolina school children who saved their spare change and lunch money for the "Save Our Ship" campaign. She was towed to Wilmington and remains as a museum ship to this day.
