Recuperating from surgery is different for each individual. As for myself having had a complete hysterectomy in early July 06 I can say I feel so much better. I assume the doctor gave you an indication that with surgery it can take up to a year for your body to heal....so with that said just take care of yourself and enjoy your new woman independence...

Recovery time for a woman who has a hysterectomy varies depending mostly upon the type of procedure which was performed. For traditional surgeries, the patient can leave the hopital within three days, but it can take several months to fully recover. With the more modern robotic procedure, the recovery time can be as little as 10 days because the procedure is much less invasive.

Usually the patients post-operative stay is about 1-2days, though some women need or decide to stay upto four days, depending on how they feel. Once a women is home it can take a complete four to eight weeks to recover from an (abdominal hysterectomy), activities should be resumed gradually! Women who have undergone a (vaginal OR larascopic hysterectomy) most can resume to there normal activities within one to two weeks. FOR BOTH, by the 6th week you should be able to resume sexual activity. Hope this helped!
