with my 3 year old i have to ware her out a bit to get her to take a nap. i would start waring them out for like a week right before u want them to nap and just make sure u always lay them down around the same time. my daughter has school and when she gets home she is so tired and i have no problem laying her down for a nap.

As for trying to get a 4 year-old to sleep, the best thing to do is try to tire him out before bedtime/nap time. Play games with a lot of movement to help him get out his energy. When it is bedtime/nap time, read him a book and maybe put on some soothing music.
