In those programs, they not only teach you the basics of auto repair and automotive theory, but they teach you how to be a technician. It doesn't really matter what type of school you go to because most shops will start you off in an entry level position. To actually be an automotive technician takes years of hands on experience that a school can't teach you. Going to a technical college and earning an associates degree would be the fastest road to being a technician.
