it depends on certain factors, like what kind of jobs you are doing, how your body responds to the operation eg. serious vommitting after the operation due to GA and how you feel after the operation. even though one can normally walk with crutches a day after the operation or the day itself, it is quite imposssible to walk long distances due to the discomfort of your leg. the constant discomfort, even with painkillers, might put you off from going to work, but it usually lasts for 1 to 2 weeks, after which one can walk, albeit with the help of crutches, or crutch, with minimal pain and discomfort, though there will be a slowdown in speed. time will also be needed to do rehab everyday by oneself or with the help of a physiotherapist

What is the specific role of the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments?

The ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) and the PCL (posterior cruciate ligament) are the two major ligaments in the knee that work together to provide stability in the knee. They cross each other and form an 'X' which allows the knee to flex and extend without side to side movement.

ACL tear stands for?

Unfortunately, many NFL players know this one. It's the anterior cruciate ligament , and is the most frequent injury during sports (or work) when a sudden sideways (lateral) shock occurs to the knee causing a tear, rupture or separation of the ligament from the bone.

Anterior cruciate ligament repair - series?

Normal anatomyThe anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is a ligament in the center of the knee that prevents the shin bone (tibia) from moving forward on the thigh bone (femur).IndicationsIf the ACL is torn, the knee joint may become unstable and affect the ability to perform work or athletic activities.Procedure, part 1ACL reconstruction is surgery to replace the torn ACL ligament. There are several choices of tissue to use for the new ligament, including an autograft (tissue from the patient's own body) or an allograft (tissue from a cadaver). One of the most common autografts use part of the patellar tendon (the tendon in the front of the knee).Procedure, part 2The old ligament is removed using a shaver or other instruments. Bone tunnels are made to place the new ligament (patellar graft) in the knee at the site of the old ACL. Screws are commonly used to secure the graft in the bone tunnels, although other methods of fixation are used depending on the type of graft used.AftercareAt the end of the surgery, the incisions are closed, and a dressing is applied. ACL reconstruction is usually a very successful surgery. The majority of patients will have a stable knee that does not give way after ACL reconstruction.Reviewed ByReview Date: 08/14/2011Linda J. Arthroscopic knee surgery can happen under many circumstances; torn cartilage, ligament surgery, water on the knee, patella damage, etc: This form of surgery is used as often as possible as the complications are often less.
