The total distance in road miles is about 3,280 miles according to MapQuest. Assuming that on average 20 miles could be covered every day and no time was lost along the way due to sickness or injury the trip would require 164 days or about 5.5 months to complete. Few would make it all the way and a skilled and trained athlete with sufficient motivation could cut that time in half.

Depends of starting/ ending point- they are both good sized states. The shortest trip would be about 2000 miles. At 20 miles per day, walking EVERY day, it would take 80 days. However, very few people are accustomed to walking 20 miles per day, every day, so trip would be longer.

I did the calcultions by walking 12 hours a day at 20 minutes per mile and it comes out to about 57 days. It could be done in less time if you walk faster and for more hours per day.
