The D-mark is now obsolete because Germany adopted the euro in 2002.

At that time the value of ordinary coins and bills (as opposed to collectibles) was roughly 1 DM = $0.50

Some larger banks in the EU are still set up to convert older currency to euros but they're becoming increasingly difficult to find. See related link

The Deutschmark does not exist anymore, but is was like 1/2 dollar in 2001 (and before).
