There are currently 4 mints:
Philadelphia and Denver make coins for circulation. The mint marks are P and D respectively, except that Philly cents don't have a P mint mark.
San Francisco ("S") makes proof coins for collectors
West Point ("W") makes gold and silver bullion coins for investors and collectors. Once in a while they help out by making cents when there's enough demand, but without mint marks so they look just like Philadelphia cents.
In the past the US also operated mints in New Orleans, Carson City, Charlotte, and Dahlonega GA.
