Cans, steel and aluminum, are 100% recyclable.Making one new can out of aluminum ore takes TWENTY TIMES the energy that it does to make one new can using recycled cans.Every time you recycle ONE aluminum can, you save enough energy to run a TV for three hours!
100 16oz cans for 100 people
A 2012 study by the Natural Resources Defense Council found that only 50% of aluminum drink cans in the US are recycled. The rest are thrown away; buried or burnt. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources writes: Americans went through more than 100 billion aluminum cans in 2000, but recycled just 54.5 percent of them, according to the Container Recycling Institute. The aluminum can recycling rate has rollercoastered generally downward since 1992, when a 65 percent recycling rate was achieved.
Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to run a TV for three hours, or half a gallon of gas. It takes 95% less energy to recycle it than it does to make from raw materials, and can run a computer for 5 hours and also a hoover for 6 hours! See the video in the related link below.

There are some waste products that take a very long time to decompose in a landfill. Thus, they should be recycled, instead of simply thrown away. For example, an aluminum can takes around 100 years to decompose.
First, it depends on the size of the can. Take the measurement of the diameter of the can (how many inches across). Next, figure out how many cans would fit in 1 sq.ft.(12in. x 12in.). For instance, if the can measures 3 in. across then we will be able to fit 4 cans length-wise and 4 cans width-wise. The formula for sq.footage is length x width. 4 x 4 = 16. So 16 cans will fill 1 sq.ft. Now multiply that by 100: you'll need 1600 cans.
