Initially by hand, thrown over the side by the observer. Wing racks were soon developed. Airships, Zeppelins, carried out bombing too. There was no use or means of what became in WW2 of strategic bombing.
The first bombing mission isn't recorded. It's thought to have been the French raid on a zepplin hanger August 14, 1914. As early as Sept 1914, the French were organising air units assigned to bombing raids.
The first recorded aerial bombing actually happened before WW1. The Italians bombed Turkish troops in the Italian-Turkish war 1911.

This can never be determined. The Germans deliberately designed their bombs to be slightly unreliable, leaving many unexploded bombs scattered around as a means of terror. Some bomb designs were even booby trapped to kill anyone attempting to defuse the bomb. Many of these unexploded bombs remain buried under the streets of London to this day and could explode unexpected at any time if disturbed.

Many American war veterans from World War II would say that the nuclear bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki to save millions of American servicemen who would otherwise have to invade the Japanese Homeland. The stated intent prior to Victory in Europe was to develop an atomic bomb before the Germans did so. Once the Germans were defeated the stated purpose changed. Some believe that the real reason for dropping the bombs was to punish Japan for the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on December 7, 1941.
