In the Halifax Explosion there was over 2,000 people dead and over 9000 people that were wounded/injured, the hospitals were overwhelmed and had patients waiting on strechers on the sidewalk outside of the hospital.

That was a horrible accident. The French SS Mont-Blanc ship that was fully loaded with wartime explosives collided with the Norwegian ship Imo cargo ship. It is estimated that around 2000 lives were lost.
