It depends on the rabbit's size and personality if he/she will eat it slowly or fast. Carrots are high in sugars and starches and should be limited in a rabbit's diet as a treat food. Carrot greens are excellent and can be included in the rotation of daily "salad" greens, but carrot itself should be limited: The House Rabbit Society recommends no more than 2 tablespoons per day of treat food (including carrot) for a normal, healthy 6 pound rabbit. Not even a whole one. Carrots are high in sugar and carbs and they should be considered a treat food for rabbits. Treats should be limited in a rabbit's diet because too many can lead to illness. The House Rabbit Society recommends no more than 2 tablespoons of fruit/veg a day for a healthy, normal 6 pound rabbit. See the related questions below for more info.

Why are rabbits allergic to carrots?

Rabbits are not allergic to carrots. However, carrots are very high in sugar and if a rabbit indulges in too many sweets, various complications can result, all of them possibly leading to the rabbit's death. A bite or two of carrot every couple of days will not harm your rabbit (assuming she's otherwise healthy and eating a healthy diet. See the related questions below for more info). Carrot greens, on the other hand, are very healthy for your rabbit and you can offer them regularly!

Why do rabbits eat carrot?

Because they're high in sugar and rabbits have a sweet tooth; and, because they're at the bottom of carrot greens, which are also very yummy to rabbits (except, unlike carrots, the greens are very healthy!). It's not healthy for rabbits to eat carrots because they're so high in sugar. A rabbit can get diabetes and maybe die from too many sweets. A rabbit can also get gas from eating too much sugar, or can upset the balance of bacteria in the gut, and suffer gastric distress (and possibly death) as a result. A rabbit can also suffer gastric distress from not eating enough hay daily; and if the rabbit eats too many sweets, it will spoil its appetite for hay. Obesity can also result in the long-term from eating too many sweets, and obesity has another range of related health complications. Treats, like carrot, should be strictly restricted (one or two bites every couple of days is okay, assuming your rabbit is otherwise healthy and eating a healthy diet).
