A US nickel has a denomination of 5 cents.

Technically the coin is called a five-cent piece. The name "nickel" is from slang that was used in the 19th century to distinguish coins that had the same denomination but were made out either silver or cupronickel alloy. Eventually all of them were discontinued except for cupronickel 5-cent coins, and the name stuck.
