Estimates vary from 1 in 100 up to 1 in 60. The rate a generation ago was less than 1 in 5000.

With an estimate of 1 in 100, that works out to there probably being over 200,000 children with autism in the UK at present, with numbers rising.

The number of autistic people in the UK is 700,000 but this figure doesn't include those who are autistic but yet to be diagnosed - as for people who are effected by autism, it is impossible to say as autism can effect entire families, carers and educators.

Autism effects 700,000 people within the UK, however this figure is based on people who have had a diagnosis - many people are undiagnosed, thus there are likely far more people with autism within the UK.

The percentage of Autistic people in the UK is around 1.1%. However this only considers people who have had a diagnosis, thus does not include all Autistic people, we don't know the total.

Can people with autism have feelings?

It's sadly a myth when people with autism spectrum disorder have no emotions. Like Spock from Star Trek. Autistic individuals have always been called robotic or monotones. Many autistic people have emotions but they may not express them like neurotypicals can. And it doesn't mean the feelings and emotions are not there.

Is autism a neurotic disorder?

Yes, Autism is known as Autism Spectrum Disorder and is a neurological disorder. However many Autistic people prefer it to be referred to as a neurological difference - disorder implies that Neurotypical is the norm, the ideal, or the perfect and that Autism is a broken version so worth less.

Are you ill if you have autism?

Autism is considered a "neurodevelopmental disorder." Many parents of autistic children are trying to get the DSM to reclassify autism as not being a mental illness. Autistic people can, however, have many other psychological illness's such as OCD. It depends on what you mean by "ill"; if you're technically speaking then check with the DSM, but if you are talking in a more judgmental sense then the answer can vary. No matter what autistic people are still people and deserve to be treated as such.

Are all autistic children saviants?

No, not all Autistic children are savants. Many Savants are Autistic, but most Autistic people are as normal as Neurotypical people with no particularly special talents.

Why does your autistic child not answer to his name?

Your autistic child may not recognise their name as their name. Many autistic people are disconnected from how they are percieved by others, not all Autistic people accept the name given to them as representitive of them.

What are the forms of autism?

I have a serverly Autistic brother and a son with Autistic traits. Basically every Autistic child has deferent obsesstions and behavours. Some Autistic children become attached to objects and others to just one person usually the mother. Some autistic babies talk jabber talk to their hands, most autistic child will not accept change. All autistic children are highly intelligent. Autistic children they say become autistic adults, not true. I taught my son to clap his hand when he started jabber talking to his hands. Having an autistic brother i learnt alot about early inconvention. Knowing the signs of austistic behavours with my brother, enabled me to intervene and cox my child out of these obsessive haviours. please don't give up if your child has been diagnosed with autisim as you as a parent can work with your child and teach them normal behavours, and make them accept change by not letting them get into a routine. good luck

Are autistic people smart?

it’s a rather complicated question because individuals with autism tend to be neurologically diverse. I find that many people will occasionally put autistic individuals into one group which isn’t accurate. People need to grasp the fact that it’s a spectrum disorder so people with autism can be very intelligent. This isn’t stating that every single person with this disorder is capable of intellectual greatness because it’s diverse. In fact, it is believed that Elbert Einstein could’ve had this disorder because of the way he behaved. Traits like having poor communication skills, bad anxiety, anti social behavior, and having intense interest in a subject are common amongst people within this spectrum.

Can autistics be actors?
