Deer of course. Most deer herds change during the year. Most herds contain does and fawns with one buck who reins over them. Other herds of deer are bucks that grew too old to stay any longer with their mothers. These bucks form bachelor herds for most are too young yet to challenge an older buck for his herd of does.

The species dominate in North America is the white-tailed deer. There is not a definite set number with this species. White-tail only herd up combined gender herds when not in breeding season. In Illinois, it is common to see herds from February till October that number around 30. One can also see herds of just females, young of the year or young immature deer or young bucks. These herds number 6 to 12.
