The basic three degrees of Freemasonry (the "Symbolic," "Craft" or Blue Lodge degrees) are the Entered Apprentice, Fellowcraft, and Master Mason degrees, in that order.

Although the "highest" degree in Freemasonry is considered to be the 3rd degree, or that of a Master Mason, additional degrees and orders are conferred by various "appendant" Masonic bodies which are supplemental to the first three. Because there are several branches of Freemasonry, there are quite a few additional degrees, none of them, however, is more important that that of a Master Mason.

See the related link below for a listing of various degrees and orders.

There are 33 degrees in the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry as practiced in the U.S., which includes those of Craft Masonry. There are only 3 degrees as practiced in Ancient Craft Masonry in the U.S., U.K., and areas under their jurisdiction or subscribing to their type of Freemasonry. The York, or American Rite of Freemasonry has 10 degrees, not including the 3 of Craft Masonry. Other Rites in Europe have a different number than those in the U.S.

The thirty three degrees of the Scottish Rite are:

a entered apprentice

b fellow craft

c master mason

d secret master

e perfect master

f intimate secretary

g provos and judge

h superintendent of the building of master in Israel

i master elect of the nine

j illustrious elect of the fifteen

k sublime knight or chevalier elect

l great master architect

m royal arch

n grand scottish chevalier of the heavenly vault

o chevalier of the east of the sword

p prince of Jerusalem

q chevalier of the east of the west

r sovereign prince rose cross

x prince of the tabernacle

y chevallier of the brazen serpent

The three principal degrees of Freemasonry are known as Entered Apprentice, Fellow Craft and Master Mason throughout the English-speaking world. Most non-English speaking Lodges work the same degrees but perhaps with different names.

There are other degrees which supplement these three and are called concordant or side degrees. There are a number of them, often grouped into systems and administered as a group by separate bodies from the Grand Lodges.

There are three degrees in Fremasonry: The 1st Degree (Entered Apprentice), the 2nd Degree (Fellowcraft) and 3rd Degree (Master Mason).

Although there are appendant Masonic bodies that offer further "degrees" (such as the Scottish Rite), there is nothing higher than the 3rd Degree in Freemasonry.

However, most modern Masonic systems calls the appendant lodges Masonic as well, and the above view is rather orthodox. In the Swedish 10-degree system, the first 3 are in one lodge, then you get transferred to another to continue.

The 33-degree system is probably the most common worldwide.

There are three basic degrees of Freemasonry: Apprentice, Fellowcraft and Master Mason. There are also a number of extra degrees in which a mason can pursue further researches. In the Scottish Rite system, these are numbered from four to thirty-two, with a thirty-third for the leaders of this body. However, the higher numbers are misleading as they imply that the degrees are more important or confer more power on the holder than the Master Mason degree. Neither of these is true. It also suggests that the only degrees beyond the Master Mason degree exist in the Scottish Rite system, whereas in fact there are a whole group of degrees in what is loosely called the York Rite, including the Royal Arch degree, none of which are counted in the Scottish Rite numbering system. York rite degrees exceed a dozen, and there are others associated with neither the York or Scottish Rites. All of this can change from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, so the answer to how many different degrees are being worked is different in each jurisdiction.
