The true status of the Red wolf and the many subspecies of the Grey wolf is uncertain so there is not really a definite answer.

There are six species, but many subspecies. There's Gray Wolves, Indian Wolves, Red Wolves, Himalayan Wolf, Eastern Wolf, and Ethiopian Wolves.
There are only two reconginized species of wolfs which contain subspecies that have a unique trait that was acquired from being in a certain area. The two main species ate canis lupus, which is the gray wolf, and canis Rufus, which is the red wolf.
