It varies - according to different number formats.

Most 'standard' numbers have 10 digits after the 0 trunk prefix or +44 country code, including the dialling (area) code, but some places have only 9 digits.

Numbers belonging to large cities such as London have the format 020 8234 5678 while Birmingham uses 0121 555 7788. Other places may use 01987 445566 or 015395 23456. There's also 01204 56789 and 016977 3555.

Freephone numbers starting 0800 have another 6 or 7 digits (eg 0800 123 4567 or 0800 234 456), while 0500 has another 6 digits and 0808 has another 7 digits.

Mobile numbers start 074 to 079 with another 8 digits.

Most telephone numbers in the UK have a total of 11 digits in domestic format, including the trunk prefix 0. However, in a few small towns there are some numbers with only 10 digits.

Examples: 02x 1234-5678, 01x1 123-4567, 01xxx 123456, 01xxxx 12345, 01204 xxxxx (note: 01204 is one of the area codes with some shorter numbers)

In international format, that's 12 digits for most numbers; for example, +44 1xxx 123456 or +44 1x1 123 4567 or +44 2x 1234 5678.

UK mobile numbers are always 11 digits in domestic format or 12 digits in international format.

Most telephone numbers in the UK have a total of 11 digits as dialed in domestic format; for example, 020 7946 0123 or 0121 496 0123 or 01632 960123 or a mobile 07700 900123. (There are a few places that have some numbers one digit shorter.)

In international format, you drop the trunk prefix 0 from the UK domestic area code and replace it with country code +44, giving a total of 12 digits for most UK telephone numbers.
