In my state: Washington - you may park no closer than 20 feet to a crosswalk, and no closer than 30 feet to a stop or yield sign, and no closer than 15 feet to a fire hydrant. Your state may well have different regulations.

If the sign is on one block, you are not allowed to park on the block. Only on the one behind it or the one in front of it until further notice.
You must park more than 50 feet away from rail road tracks. 10 feet from a hydrant. 25 feet from a crosswalk. 50 feet from a stop sign. and more than 20 feet of the driveway entrance to a fire station and over 75 feet on the side opposite a fire station entrance.
