A directory is also known as a folder. It is not a file, rather it is where files are stored. Generally many directories make up a program. And many files are contained in each directory.

When i open my hard drive i get a message that drive is not accessiable the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable how can i fix this problem?

there can be many causes for that depending on cause the fixing has many ways. example :- if you get this message last when you accessed some file in the directory which might be corrupted then open MS-DOS and see the files in the directory ... delete the file that's got corrupted and restart the computer . This must help but as i already said solution can be more easily found when cause is known first.

How do you stop system32 from popping up when you start up windows xp?

Mine has suddenly started doing this too. A required Microsoft Windows system directory, the Windows System32 directory is often located in either C:\Windows\System32 or C:\Winnt\system32. Often many Microsoft Windows error messages will contain the system32 directory because many of the system files Windows uses to run are stored in this directory. By itself the System32 directory will not cause any errors unless it is missing of course. If you are getting an error with a file in the System32 directory search for that file. No error message, it just pops up and has to be 'closed'
