Bach had written six french suite, he name it french suite is just to differentiate them from english suite, not because these suite are written in french style. French suite is from BWV 812 to BWV 817, Allemande, courante, sarabande and gigue are 4 common dance suite found in six suites. Bach had added different suite between sarabande and gigue, for example, anglaise, gavotte,minuet and trio, polonaise.
Everybody believes that he wrote all 6 cello suites. But, being a cellist myself, i have looked further into the suites and have found many resources saying that his manuscript has not been found, therefore, nobody is really 100% sure he wrote the suites.

What now it's called Bach's sonatas for cello and piano, are the 3 sonatas for viola da gamba and harpsichord BWV 1027-1029. The second sonata, BWV 1028 is in the tonality of D major.
