A gallon of feathers would obviously weigh a lot less than a gallon of water.

Assuming you are talking about water... (metric is much easier!)

1 pound = 0.4536 kilogram

0.4536 kilogram = 0.4536 litre (Note that this is a direct conversion for water)

0.4536 litre = 0.1198 US gallon / 0.1000 Imperial gallon

So we get ....

1 pound = 0.1198 US gallon or 0.1000 Imperial gallon

If you know the specific gravity of what you have (Water = 1, Lead = 11, Linseed oil = 0.94) then multiply "pounds" x 0.1198 (or 0.1000) x "specific gravity"
