When Geocaching.com celebrated 2,000,000 caches in 2013, their statistics showed that 184 countries had geocaches. Of course, that doesn't mean the other countries don't have their own versions of geocaching.

What geocaches can not hold a trackable?

The type of geocaches that are not able to hold a trackable are webcam caches, virtual caches and earth caches. This is because there is not an actual cache at the coordinates. You may also find physical caches that are not big enough for trackables, such as micro caches which are tiny, fingertip sized cylinders with nothing but a small paper log.

Why do you use geocaching?

Sometimes when you want to go out on a walk or go for a hike you can see if there are any geocaches along the way. Many retired people do it because they enjoy going out and not just staying inside. ~Fun😃

What is a 'geocache'?

A geocache is typically a small box or item hid on public or private land, usually with trinkets and a log book. The geocache is the object of a "treasure hunt" that is found by following clues that include GPS coordinates and landmarks. Geocaching is a recent sport that can be accomplished with or without a GPS, but usually requires one, or a person very astute at following a terrain map and compass. The object is to gather as many geocaches in your log book as you can, the harder and more remote or specialized the better. When the Geocache is located, it is logged, sometimes pictures taken of the location and occasionally trinkets are exchanged for other trinkets in the cache location or box. The best geocache boxes I have found are waterproof containers that have been sufficiently camoflaged or hidden in old logs, under rocks or in high grass and other areas. There are also underwater geocaches and even historical landmark geocaches such as statues, special locations, builings or bridges. However the typcial geocache is the small box as described above. Those hiding geocaches must receive permission from the land owner before placing an object. There are geocaching clubs and groups. Do a search on Geocache or Geocaching on any of the internet search engines for more information.

Fun things like geocaching?

When vacationing in Nada campers, it can be difficult to find a source of entertainment that everyone will enjoy. With the rapid proliferation of smart phones and tablets, it can be difficult to rip both children and adults away from their much-loved technologies. The following guide provides simple tips and tricks on how geocaching can enhance a camping trip. Geocaching is a fun activity for people of all ages. With geocaching, individuals search for hidden treasures located at certain latitudes and longitudes around the globe. Since geocached items are placed there by volunteers, it's possible to find a wide variety of items in a geocache box. In some cases, people have found prizes worth thousands of dollars. Other times, there may be prizes that are as simple as a 25 cent toy. It's possible to start geocaching in only a few minutes. All it takes is access to a computer and a GPS receiver. There are many websites that have databases of geocache coordinates. In most cases, it's possible to find dozens of geocaches in even the smallest town. While people have used dedicated GPS systems for geocaching in the past, it's possible to use one's existing GPS-enabled smart phone in many cases. However, it's important to make sure that one has an application that has off-line maps stored on the phone. Since lots of geocaches are hidden in areas without cell phone reception, it's essential to make sure that one can reach these without the use of a cellular connection. After locating a cache, it's important to make sure that it is in good condition for the next group of adventurers. Most geocaches have a small log book where one can document his or her discovery. In addition, most geocaches are filled with an exciting variety of treasures. However, it's important to remember good etiquette with geocaches. If one removes an item from a geocache, it's good manners to put in another item for another adventurer. As a rule of thumb, it's a good idea to keep the value of an item placed in a geocache box under five dollars.
