How much black powder to use for a percussion pistol 45 cal single shot?

How much powder do you use when loading a 32 or 34 caliber percussion muzzel loader?

Pistol or rifle? The ROUGH rule of thumb- start with the bore diameter. For a pistol, charge is 50% of the diameter- so about 16 grains of fffG. For a rifle, 100-200% of the bore- so 32-64 grains of fffG. You should check with the maker if they are still in business, and see if they have an instruction manual available. NEVER use anything but black powder, or a black powder substitute, such as Pyrodex.

How much blackpowder do you use in a 44 caliber cva pistol?

In your STEEL-FRAME "1851 Colt" pistol variants (made by CVA, Pietta, Uberti, etc.), you can use either a .451 diameter or .454 diameter lead ball (NOT a .45 caliber rifled bullet), and 30 grains of FFFg Black Powder. I recommend that you also use a "lubricated pistol wad" (NOT A PATCH) in between the powder and the bullet, so you don't "touch off" one of the other chambers, with a spark from the round you're planning to fire. In your BRASS-FRAME "1851 Confederate Navy Colt" pistol variants (also made by CVA, Pietta, Uberti, etc.), you should use ONLY USE a .451 diameter lead ball, and ONLY 25 grains of FFFg Black Powder. Brass is a much softer metal than steel, and your frame can crack if you use too much powder when you shoot it. Although Pietta "recommends" 30 grains, most reinactors will tell you that 25 grains is plenty enough to get the ball out of the barrel, and it is even more consistently accurate at 25 yards! Most "starter kits" come with a 30 grain spout, but the "Confederate" (brass-frame) Colts are made from a softer metal, and you should use less powder in them, just to be on the "safe side". You can find a 25 grain spout that will fit most powder flasks at www.PossibleShop.com

How many grains of fffg blackpowder do you use per chamber in a .44 cal 1858 Remington New Army Revolver?

Roughly 40 grains, but it will vary depending on round ball or elongated bullet. We would urge you to contact the manufacturer for an owner's manual for your revolver. Many makers have manuals available on line, or free for the asking from their customer service department.

What is the age and value of a Richard Belgian laminated steel double barrel shotgun?

It would have been made circa 1890-1914. Its value would be determined by how good it looks over a fireplace, probably $150-$200. It should not be fired. I OWN AND SHOOT AN A. RICHARD DOUBLE BARREL SHOTGUN WITH LAMINATED STEEL BARRELS AND HAVE DONE SO FOR WELL OVER 50 YEARS. I USE BLACK POWDER ONLY (IMPORTANT) WITH A MAXIMUM LOAD OF 3 1/2 DRAMS OF FFFG AND 1 1/4 OZ SHOT LOADED IN PLASTIC WADS IN 3" SHELLS. THEY REALLY ARE FINE GUNS BUT FOR BLACK POWDER ONLY. IF YOU HAVE ONE IN GOOD CONDITION, I'LL BUY IT. earl@nitline.net
