Varies by institution. Some RN's work 3 12's, then have 2 days off - others work 4 10's then have 2 days off. RN's continually rotate days off in that manner - rarely will only but the topmost RN have every weekend off. It all works out to at least 40 hours per week eventually.
In the state of Florida, there is no mandate as to how many hours a nurse can work in a row. Legislation was introduced in 2006 to limit the number of hours that a nurse can work in a row but it did not pass.
