On February 3, 1988, nine passengers and four crew suffered very minor casualties as a result of the landing. The MD-83 aircraft, travelling DFW-BNA, experienced smoke resulting from a chemical fire in the centre cargo hold.
Whilst the flight deck was working on getting the aircraft quickly and safely on the ground in Nashville, it was presumed that the well-trained American Airlines cabin crew would be assuming their rehearsed responsibilities immediately. However, passengers complained that the crew gave confusing and incorrect instructions, which led to confusion and fear for the passengers. Of the 126 crew and passengers, there were no fatalities, nor was anyone seriously injured.
There were four planes. The names:United Airlines flight 11, United Airlines flight 93, American Airlines flight 175, and American Airlines flight 77.
