There is one major lake (called "Yellowstone"), three moderately sized ones (Shoshone, Lewis, and Heart), and at least twenty other bodies of water called "lakes." Check the map if you want to count them all.
There are 28 lakes in the state of Vermont. The most well known are probably Lake Champlain, the largest lake in New England, and Lake Memphremagog.
Big Sky Fishing.com lists 29 for fishing, but I'm sure there are more than that.
