Lecture halls are used for General Education Requirement classes that everyone (or at least a large portion of the school population) must take, such as low-level history, Biology, and math courses. Typically higher-level, specific courses (300 and 400 levels, which only one or two majors are required to take) are not taught in a lecture format, but in a much smaller, more personal style.
