a lot

My copy of the Iliad has 297 pages. I came across the question on my quest to find out if it was abridged. I don't think it's abridged but it's the W.H.D. Rouse "plain English" translation. It's the same story with many of the same words (translated) but it doesn't have all the stylistic words that Homer original used. So I think the original "epic poem" was a lot longer. Wikepedia claims that it is aprox.15,700 lines. My copy is the seventh printing, 1956. It's published as a MENTOR BOOK by the New American Library.

Oh, and it's very small.

Okay so there's a bigger more recently published version (http://www.Amazon.com/Iliad-Penguin-Classics-Deluxe/dp/0140275363) that is 704 pages and it's dimensions: 8.3 x 5.5 x 1.9 inches.
