Around 7,000 people, a mixture of men and women from all over the world have reached the summit of Mount Everest to date, 2016.
George Mallory.Doug Scott became the first Briton to reach the summit of Mount Everest on the 24th September 1975.
The year that Mount Everest was first climbed was 1953. A climber from New Zealand called Edmund Hillary was the first person to stand on the summit of Mount Everest. He reached the top of the world on May 29th at 11.30 in the morning.
A.S Cheema was the first Indian climber to reach the summit of Mount Everest, he did so on the 20th May 1965

Up to the end of 2014 a total of 418 woman have reached the highest summit in the world, Mount Everest. However, out of the 418 woman 6 had died on the way back down the mountain after reaching the summit.
