Depends on the kind of monkey. Some are solitary, some are monogamous and some live in groups that are often around 6-20 individuals large. Some live in larger groups; there are groups of red colobus monkeys and vervet monkeys and baboons with > 100 individuals. The largest groups seem to be groups of mandrills, which may number as many as 500+ individuals.
A family of monkeys will be in a group. This will be parents, siblings and maybe even grandparents. They keep their families close to them.

Spider monkeys grow to weigh about 13 and a half pounds, and are about 14 to 26 inches long. The monkeys, which are omnivores, live about 22 years. They live with two or three dozen other monkeys in groups called "troops". These monkeys are native to Central and South America. Their natural habitat ranges from Mexico to Brazil.
