Prius in IL, winter 43 mpgs and summer 55 mpgs.
It might fit but it will take you a while.
In a 1990 Ford Aerostar : You either have the 3.0 liter V6 engine or the 4.0 liter V6 engine from the factory ( each size of engine has 6 engine cylinders )

SUVs will about never get the same gas mileage as cars. The highest one currently on market is the Ford Escape Hybrid which gets a little over 30 mpgs. The second SUV with the highest mpgs, having 30 mpgs, is the Lexus RX 45oh.
You didn't say if it stalled once the temperature got to operating temp. I believe the 1990 Aerostar has the old style coil, at least mind did. Sometimes when a coil goes it operates fine when cold, but quits when it gets hot. Wotth checking.
My Chilton book shows 2. One right after the exhaust manifold then another a little farther back before the muffler.

For safety reasons remove the positive cable from the 1998 Ford Aerostar battery. Remove the cables from the front of the starter. Remove the starter retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new starter.
