The Alto Saxophone has a range of 2.5 octaves.
From the B flat (below middle c) all the way up to F sharp 3. The high F# may be played using a high F# fingering or an alternate fingering for the note. However with the altissimo range the range is considerably higher.
It also depends on your experience with the instrument.
The Alto Saxophone can play ~30 notes in the normal range. The altissimo range extend it.

NOTE:
It is actually possible to play everything above a low b flat.
This is due to the fact that OVERTONES can be played as well by experienced players.

The Eb alto saxophone can play from low Bb to high F. GOING UP... Low Bb, B, C, C#, D, D#, E, F, F#, G, G#, A, Bb, ok, that's The FIRST OCTAVE plus these three connecting notes... B, C, C#, ( HERE ARE THE NOTE'S WITH THE thumb OCTAVE KEY depressed) D, D#, E, F, F#, G, G#, A, Bb, (the SECOND OCTAVE) now... on to the super fun high notes...B, C, C#, D, D#, E, F, Now, some saxophones have a HIGH F# key, but you can still go higher if you practice your altissimo register. Super high G, G#, A, A#, B, C, C#, & D. The first Altissimo note you will ever learn is high A... Good Luck!
There are 12 notes that can be played on an instrument, they are: Ab, A, Bb, B, C, Db, D, Eb, E, F, Gb, and G. These can be played on any instrument and since there is an endless number of octaves, there is an endless number of notes to be played, however they are simply these notes only higher or lower.
The range of the saxophone normally goes from low B flat to a High F# if the saxophone has a high F# key. If it doesn't it only goes up to F. However, if you learn a technique called "altissimo" you can play about as high as a piano can go.
If you really wanted to play a low "A" you could by playing a low B flat and completely cover the bell opening of the horn.
The highest practical note on an alto sax is the high F#, which can only be played with the high F# key. This key is only found on intermediate and higher level saxes. So if you have a student model, you wouldn't be able to play a high F#.
An alto sax can play from a low Bb to a high F/F# depending on whether or not you have the key, some don't
It all depends... On a Eb Baritone Saxophone with the low A and high F#, there would be 33 notes all together.
12 notes per octave, but it really depends on the person.
