Michael has released about 18 solo albums. All but one or two have received gold or platinum discs within a few months of their release and have kept selling afterwards.
Gold discs are awarded for 100.000 sold albums and platinum for 300.000.
Besides his solo albums he has released a lot of compilation albums and appear on a lot of cast recordings.
I know he received a tripple platinum disc for the original cast recording of Les Misérables in 2001, which equals 900.000 sold albums(and that is 10 years ago - just imagine how many it's sold since)
I think the last I've heard was that he's sold more than 5 million albums in the UK alone(not including the cast recordings).
