Collect what you want you like. If you dig coins, then collect 'em. If you like Dolls, collect those. Heck if you like beani baggies, collect those! It's preference, and no one can tell you why to collect something. It has to be a passion.

It is the same reason anyone would collect anything else. Why Jay Leno collects cars, or why you collect old albums. It is just a passion that we have for coins, and learning as much about them as we can. There are no hard fast rules about collecting which makes it all the more appealing.

If you are referring to coin collectors, and asking why they collect coins. It is simply a preference. Kind of like why you collect tea cups, or spoons, or shoes. Something about that object just makes you want to have them all.

What is coin collecting?

With all due respect, that's not a well-directed question. There is no single ("the") collectible coin. In addition, there are many different reasons people collect coins - some for investment, some to acquire a complete set of dates, some to assemble a set that has a theme such as flowers or buildings, and on and on. So you have to decide why and how you're interested in coins. If you're interested in value (the most common reason), there are plenty of websites that give tons of information about values. Just a tiny selection: www.coinfacts.com www.coinclub.com/prices www.coinpage.com www.coinpeople.com www.usmint.gov www.numismedia.com
