The Japan tsunami was at night so it killed more people then it would have done. A eyewitness said that her husband was ripped from her hands and that it killed over 10,000 people and left millions naked and homeless.
The major earthquake and tsunami from March 2011 in Japan caused so much damage and confusion (not to mention the many aftershocks) that it's impossible to separate how many people were killed in the earthquakes as opposed to the tsunami. Likewise, many died later from injuries suffered in this double disaster.
The National Police Agency of Japan reported that as ofMarch 2013, there were15,881 deaths, 6,142 injured, and 2,668 missing.Previously, as of September 2011 the reported counts were15,854 deaths, 26,992 injured, and 3,155 still missing. This surpasses the death toll for the 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake.
Presumably the missing people at this point were washed out to sea.
There is no exact number of people missing from the Japan tsunami. There is an estimated amount of 10,000 dead, but a number of people missing is not known as of right now.
