What ever the number is - it is not correct. Remember the push was on Swine Flu. Most individuals could not get tested until they had a fever for over five days - and then they had to specify that they wanted to be tested for WNV. But Flu is Flu so there was no need to spend the money for a test for which there was no cure for.

in America from 1999 the number built up each year starting in 1999:

1999:65

2000:around 40

2001: around 60

2002:around 100

2003:around 200

but the number dropped by 2007

and this year in the u.s

2010:250

You need to go to the CDC site for West Nile Virus for the straight scoop.

I think you will find that if you study the History of WNV in the US, the reporting was probably changed after 2003. But this is only if you are very interested in the past.

This and Dengue Fever is going to get worse. As a matter of fact the CDC only started putting Dengue Fever numbers on their site a few weeks ago!

In 2018, 49 out of 50 states and the District of Columbia reported West Nile virus infections in people, birds, or mosquitoes. Overall, 2,647 cases of WNV were reported in humans, and there were 167 (6.3%) confirmed deaths in 2018. This data shows an increase in the number of human cases reported in 2017 (2,097).
