The typical U.S. Army battalion is a unit of 800 - 900 soldiers. Hard to give a definite answer because it can vary with time, place and type of unit. In the infantry and engineers (basically army units) the original idea was 7 troops make up a squad, and there are three squads plus a heavy weapons squad in each platoon (more or less 28 troops per platoon); three platoons plus a weapons platoon in each company (more or less 112 troops per company); three companies plus a weapons company in each battalion (more or less 450 troops per battalion). There are also non-commissioned and commissioned officers commanding each of these units above the squad level and administrative personnel such as warrant officers, etc. at most levels.
A Battalion consits of about 500 to 1500 men usually consisting of between two and six companies and a battalion is usually commanded by a Lieutenant Colonel.
Depending on unit composition, it could be anywhere from 500 to 800 or more.
2000
For the US Army, during the Vietnam War, a battalion was about 600 men. The US Marine Corps will be similar in organization (during the Vietnam era).
Red; 1st battalion. Gold; 2nd battalion. Blue; third battalion.
Depending on unit composition, it could be anywhere from 500 to 800 or more.
100,000
There are 100 - 120 Marines in a Company. Jim Carson, USMC, Memphis, TN
many people have considered it. i think it will be worth it but there will be consequences.
I'm not sure but in the US there are around 100,000
The 5th and 6th Marine Regiments and the 6th Machine Gun Battalion became the 4th Marine Brigade with a troop strength of 9,444 men. They were combined with the 2nd Engineer Regiment (US Army) and 3rd Brigade, US Army to form the 2nd Division (Army), American Expeditionary Force. The Second Division was under the command of two different Marine Corps Generals at different times during WWI, Brigadier General Charles A. Doyen and Major General John A. Lejeune.
There are 4 brigades in a division. Each brigade has 6 battalions in it (2 infantry battalions, 1 artillery battalion, 1 BSB, 1 BSTB, and 1 Cavalry battalion) so to answer your question in a standard division there are 24 battalions

yesAnswerI don't think there was any Army Ranger battalion at Iwo Jima. This was a Marine amphibious landing. Now there were specialized troops within the Marines and some could have been called "rangers". At one time there was a Marine Paratroopers but these were quickly disbanded. My answer is No.The 6th Ranger Battalion did carry out the only successful POW rescue mission on the Phillipines.
