The two main classes of people living in Olmec cities were the elite ruling class, including nobles and priests, who lived in larger, centrally located structures, and the commoners who lived in smaller, more dispersed residential areas in the city. The elite had access to luxury goods and were responsible for governing, religious ceremonies, and overseeing trade, while commoners engaged in farming, craft production, and other daily activities.
