petrol at one time but diesel is now on a par. Today it is more of a question of how efficiently they are used.
Diesel, petrol and fuel were found at the same time by a forest explorer in a forest.
Yes, petrol will work in a diesel engine but will run rough for a short time before the engine needs extensive and expensive repairs.
Diesel run in any petrol engine will do damage if you can keep the engine running for a long period of time. A petrol engine will not start and run on diesel fuel alone Posted by Danny from Bee Mech Mobile Mechanics
A Petrol engine use petrol that it ignites to cause an explosion in the cylinders, where the diesel engine works by compressing the mix of diesel and air, expose this to heat to make it explode but over a longer time. So a diesel engine has no spark plugs. The diesel needs pressure and heat, while petrol is explosive, will explode. So the two cannot be used together.
Accidentally putting diesel in a petrol tank is a serious issue that requires immediate action to avoid costly engine damage. If you've mistakenly filled your petrol vehicle with diesel, do not start the engine. Starting the car can circulate diesel through the fuel system, increasing the risk of damage. The correct procedure starts with safely draining the tank. This typically involves removing the fuel tank or accessing it via the fuel line to extract all contaminated fuel. Professional fuel drainage services use specialized equipment to safely siphon the diesel-petrol mixture. After draining, the tank and fuel lines should be flushed thoroughly to eliminate any residual diesel. It’s also advisable to replace the fuel filter, as it may have absorbed diesel during the incident. Once the system is clean, refill the tank with fresh petrol. Always seek assistance from a qualified technician or fuel removal service, especially if the engine was started. PETRO Industrial (petroinddotcom) emphasizes safe handling and proper fuel system maintenance to prevent long-term damage. Prevention is key—double-check fuel pumps and labels when refueling to avoid such costly errors in the future.
There is no cetane number for petrol. Cetane is a measurement of Diesel fuel and Octane is a measure of Petrol. Each is a measure of the combustion ability. Cetane is a measure of the amount of time from injection of the fuel into the combustion chamber and the actual ignition of the fuel. Diesel's ignite the fuel through compression and not spark as in a petrol engine.
The main advantage of a diesel van over a similar petrol one is that the fuel ecomony is better with a diesel van, and in some cases the suggested length of time between servicing is greater. However the increased fuel ecomony needs to be set off against the higher cost of purchasing diesel and in many cases the higher purchase price.
As much as the fuel tank can hold
Who cares it's a cheapskate diesel. Grow a pair and get a turbo charged petrol engine, just compare like for like so take your 2.0 ltr diesel and look at the equivalent 2.0ltr petrol it will make the diesel look poor. Its a diesel get over it.
Yes it is possible to swap a diesel for a petrol engine, if you have the money, skill, and time. It will require lots of money. I would not advise it.
