What type of potato? If they are not seed potatoes you will get none. Different varieties produce varying amounts but you will get several on each plant.

Mashed potatoes are mashed. Creamed potatoes are prepared with a cream sauce and are thinner than mashed potatoes... and creamier! It usually involves butter and heavy cream, or sometimes milk and flour. There are, of course, many different ways to prepare each, but they are texturally different. Whipped potatoes is another variation, and requires an electric mixer.

This depends on how you are serving the potatoes and what part of the meal the potatoes will be. I would probably use one potato per person. I would also have an extra potato for every two men, and count half of a potato per child. That is if the potatoes were only part of the meal and not the whole meal. Being able to use math comes in handy. I would count the potatoes in a 10 pound bag and then decide how many to buy. I have also found that the different types of potatoes do better in different dishes.
