Using basic calculation of amps times volts equals watts you can see that a 15 amp circuit at 120volts has a capability of 1800 watts but a circuit should never be loaded above 80% so you have 1440 watts available. Most recessed light will not allow higher than a 75 watt bulb so assuming this take 1440 watts and divide by 75 watts to get 19.2 bulbs as you cant have a partial bulb go with no more than 19 lights. On a normal height ceiling of about 9 feet I never place recessed lights closer than 24 inches to the wall. As for interconnecting you just run a wire from one recessed light to the next. I would recommend that if you do not feel comfortable with the placement or wiring of these lights that you contact an electrician that specializes in lighting design to help you.

Should be fine if that is all that is on the breaker.

User Avatar

Yes. I am assuming this is a residential question. A better answer is...if the 8 recessed lights draw fewer than 16 amps together, it is good.

User Avatar

There is no code limitation for the height distance for recessed lights.

User Avatar

No, the fluorescent fixtures that are installed in dropped ceilings are also know as recessed lighting.

User Avatar

Well, it depends on the size of your kitchen and the watt of the recessed light. But I think if you choose LED recessed you don't have to own many of them. For my kitchen, I only use 6 of LED recessed lights.

Recessed lights would be considered a penetration in the fire rated system.

To meet the requirements of the electrical code you have to know the total wattage of the lights that you are going to connect to the 15 amp circuit.

User Avatar

Pot lights? I will guess recessed ceiling lights? I would look at the one that shorted to see if it is the first one in the series and lost the connection. The switch may also be the problem.

To answer this question the wattage of the flood lights must be stated.

If you are referring to house wiring then the answer is no. A breaker protects the wire size that is connected to the breaker. In home wiring most homes are wired with a #14 wire which is rated at 15 amps. That is why the wire is protected by a 15 amp breaker. The correct wire size to connect to a 40 amp breaker is a #8. This size wire is too large to connect to receptacles an light fixture terminals.

User Avatar

That depends on the usage of the room and the recessed lights you have selected. Some rooms, like bathrooms, need more light while others, like closets do not.

User Avatar

Yes you can, that is the easy part, you have to close the opening from 6 inches to 4 inches.

User Avatar

You probably blew the breaker for the lights. While usually the lights and outlets in a room are on the same breaker, it isn't always done that way. And you may have blown the light bulbs in the lights.

User Avatar

You have to do the math, A 60 watt incandescent draws about 1/2 amp. A 100 W bulb .83 amps. Using Watts = Current x Voltage you can calculate how many.

Recessed lighting is one of the best ways to get beautiful effects in certain spaces. Recessed lights come in all sorts of forms and make a space look classy and inviting to other people. It is truly a great idea to invest in recessed lights, if a person wants to make a home look more inviting and attractive to a person. Yes. Recessed lights consist of two parts, the trim and the housing. The housing is the light fixture that is installed in the ceiling, and the trim is the light itself.

In a well designed house the lights are not connected to the same circuit as an appliance. If by going out you are saying that a breaker trips, then your appliances and lights combined are exceeding the rating of the breaker. You either need to rewire and balance the loads better or plug high current appliances into different outlets on another breaker. If you are not tripping breakers, but lights are just dimming you have a bigger problem with inadequate current supplying your house.

User Avatar

If there is nothing else on the circuit then you could easily install 15. If there are outlets on the same circuit then try and keep the total of outlets and lights to a maximum of 15. But in reality the number of devices depends on how many amps each device pulls. Add up the amperage of the recessed lights you are going to install and then add any outlets and what may be plugged into them to get the number you can install. A 100 watt light bulb will draw about 1 amp. So you can easily have 15 on a 20 amp circuit.

This question is difficult to understand. Please explain what you mean.

All our electricity supply is nominally 230v and practically 240 v. At my home for example it's usually in the range 242-252 v. We have recessed lights but all the bulbs you can buy are marked 240 v.

Recessed lights or "can lights" have thermal protection for safety that cuts the power to a light fixture if it heats to a set temperature. Obviously, this is to protect the fixture and more importantly, to prevent a fire in the attic. Check for insulation of other material directly above and around the affected light to make sure it has the proper clearance.

User Avatar

Bad switch. Open wiring between switch and lights.

User Avatar

The circuit breaker is self resetting. you may have a short in the wiring.
