There are very few figures about the snail consumption in France; I found the figure of 30,000 [metric tons] circa 1990. That would mean for each French half a kilogram a year. If you estimate the weigh of a snail to 5 grams, that would mean a hundred snails per person and per year (seems unrealistic to me).
Hopefully, France being the most visited country in the world, tourists account for a large share of the national consumption.

Oui!! That means 'yes', for those who don't know........Snails, or "les escargots", is a food that is appreciated in France. The country is the largest snail consumer in the world with around 40,000 tons consumed per year. Most of the snail aquirement is artisanal, that is, gathered from the wild. Famous French snails include "escargot de Bourgogne" ("Snail of Burgundy") and"petit gris" ("Small Grey").Contrary to what many of us think, snails are not an usual menu item and even many people in France are reluctant to eat them.
French people are known for being fashionable and having a strong sense of style. France is often stereotyped as a country with a love for wine, cheese, and bread. French people are sometimes perceived as being rude or unfriendly to tourists.
Yes. Snails can eat about the same things that people eat.
