There are two space stations: the International Space Station, jointly operated by the US and Russia and the Chinese Space Station Tiangong-1. Prior to the Chinese Space Station being launched in 2011, there was only the International Space Station for a period of time.
There used to be two space stations before the International Space station when the Russians had the Mir space station, and the US has Skylab. Both of the latter have since fallen back to earth and mostly destroyed upon re-entry.
As at 18th April 2008, there are six people in space, all on board the International Space Station. Within the next few days, three will return to earth, and the other three remain on th ISS. When a shuttle is on a mission, there can be ten people in space, but if not three is the usual number.

The two most successful manned spacecrafts are the USA Space Shuttle and the USSR/Russian Soyuz.
The Shuttle has flown around 119 times and it carries five to seven people, the Soyuz flew something in the order of 100 times carrying between two and tree people, so the number must be in the order of 1000, but most of the crew went to space more than once, so I think there must be between 350 and 650 astronauts-cosmonauts in the whole history of space exploration. Yuri Gagarin was one of the most notable ones.
About 500 people from nearly 40 nations have traveled in space. The common countries are Russia, United States, and China!
