Actually Jesus or any other crucified person, did not carry the whole cross. The patibulus which is the horizontal part, is the part carried by the ones to be crucified. The Bible to my knowledge does not state the length of that distance. Jesus was the only one punished with whips recorded in the Roman history. Crucifixion alone was a sufficient punishment for anyone.
There is no genuine record of how many steps. There is a route in Jerusalem which claims to be the steps to Golgotha, and you can take part in a guided walk of it (and count the steps!) but actually, no one knows for certain where Golgotha was.The best theory i have read is that it was on the Mount of Olives. It was probably omitted by The Spirit of God in the Scriptures, to avoid it becoming a "Shrine".
To take a look at the steep south slope of Golgotha, go to the link below.
It matters if you take small steps or big steps
It took place at the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea, a tomb newly hewn out of rock in his garden not far from Golgotha. There Christ is recorded as having risen from the dead, and then aqppearing to Mary Magdalene in the garden.
