This is a hard question-But based on what history says! After Lee's death all his work in Martial Arts & film reached the world abroad. And all who witnessed Lee as students, peers, rivals, dictators, showbiz, and from competition! The mark he left and proved put him at the top! & still to this day no one has matched his skills! Many have accomplished some of his feats like 2-finger push ups & the 1-inch punch! But his agility, speed, power,& timing reflexes is still untouched. The young man had all the awnsers - and re-wrote the way humans fight! mma & u.f.c. are just now expressing Bruce Lee's vision of combat! Who knows what else he would have done if he had lived =) WAY AHEAD OF HIS TIME!
When Bruce Lee was a teenager living in Hong Kong he headed down a destructive path involving gangs and fought numerous times in street fight on HonG Kong rooftops where various styles of Kung fu would be tested against each other. It was found that Wing Chun (The art Bruce practiced) won out over the other styles more often than not due to its fast, rapid fire, direct type of attacks.
Eventaully Bruces family sent him to America to get away from the mean streets of Hong Kong where Bruce took the positive road in life. He enrolled on College while working at Ruby Chows eatery. Bruce began to teach his modified sytem of Kung fu which was based primarily on what worked in a fight. He faced numerous challengers during these years and according to his companions in training never lost. From there on studied many different martial arts with the idea of finding fuctional combat techniques for the individual as opposed to the individual conforming to a rigid style or system.
They really didn't actually fight each other. The fight in "The Way of the Dragon" is as close as you'll get.
When he was about 12 years old he began learning martial arts, wing chun in specific, from the legendary yip man
Evidently there were a lot of them. That is one of the reasons his parents sent him to the United States.
Years active: 1941-73
Probably as many as he had to.
